Piyush Goyal Stresses No Compromise on Tea Quality, Calls for Transparency

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal warned against compromising on tea quality and ruled out reversing decisions on early factory closures and 100% auction of dust-grade tea. He emphasized that oversupply of poor-quality tea could lead to a sharp price decline.

Goyal instructed FSSAI to continue its crackdown on substandard tea and demanded transparent test results accessible online. Producers of high-quality tea can seek exemptions on a case-by-case basis.

The minister urged state governments to act against banned pesticides and directed the Tea Board to create a worker database to monitor compliance with wages and benefits.
