PM Modi Highlights Fivefold Rise in Assam Railway Budget, Launches New Train Services

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the Centre has increased Assam’s annual railway budget nearly fivefold, from about ₹2,000 crore earlier to around ₹10,000 crore under the BJP government. Speaking at Kaliabor during the bhoomi pujan for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, he said the higher funding has enabled new rail lines, track doubling, electrification, and better passenger facilities. Modi also announced the launch of three new train services, including the Vande Bharat Sleeper connecting Guwahati and Kolkata and two Amrit Bharat Express trains linking Assam with eastern and northern states. He said improved rail connectivity is reducing distance, boosting economic opportunities, and bringing the Northeast closer to the national mainstream.
