PM Modi Rallies in Assam, Targets Congress Ahead of Polls

With just two days left for the Assam Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed a rally in Barpeta, backing BJP candidate Ranjeet Dass.

Modi highlighted his vision of a “Viksit Bharat,” stressing women’s empowerment and announcing a push for 33% reservation in legislative bodies. He urged women voters to support the initiative and called on political parties to back it.

Launching a sharp attack on the Congress, Modi claimed the party was heading towards continued electoral defeats, asserting that the BJP-led NDA would return to power in Assam for a third term.

He also underlined development achievements, citing improved connectivity, tourism growth, and export of Assam’s Joha rice to Europe. He noted a rise in MSP for paddy under the BJP government.

Warning against the Opposition, Modi alleged Congress could introduce policies favouring infiltrators for vote-bank politics and urged voters to safeguard Assam’s identity and future.

The Prime Minister also greeted party workers on the BJP’s Foundation Day and is scheduled to hold further rallies in Hojai and Dibrugarh. Polling will take place on April 9.
