Poacher Arrested with Recovered Rhino Horn in Assam’s Golaghat District

In a recent development, a poacher was apprehended in Assam’s Golaghat district after being found in possession of a rhino horn. The arrest follows an incident on January 22, where the poacher killed a female rhino at Kaziranga National Park and removed her horn. The rhino carcass was discovered near the Maklung forest camp of the Agoratoli Forest Range within the national park.

Promptly responding to the crime, a joint operation involving the police and forest department officers was launched to track down the poacher. The suspect, identified as Joggu Pegu, was successfully apprehended in Mohuramukh, Bokakhat locality of Golaghat.

Reports reveal that Pegu had buried the rhino horn in the backyard of his house after committing the crime. Currently, he is in the custody of the Bokakhat Police, undergoing interrogation as authorities seek further information on the incident.
