Police Bust Illegal Tax Collection Racket at Beltola Bazar

In a joint raid, Basistha and Dispur police uncovered an illegal tax collection racket at Beltola Bazar on Thursday. Five individuals—Chandan Barman, Biraj Das, Tapan Deka, Nayanjyoti Das, and Anish Mes—were detained for extorting vendors beyond GMC-approved rates. Police seized nearly ₹1 lakh, mobile phones, and tampered GMC receipts. The action followed vendor complaints about excess charges.
