Police Engage in Gunfight with Criminals in Bokakhat, One Injured
A gunfight between police and brigands in Assam’s Bokakhat town early Friday resulted in one individual sustaining a bullet wound. The encounter occurred in the Agoratoli region of Bokakhat, within the Golaghat district. The injured dacoit, Pallab Basumatary, was taken to Swahid Kamala Miri Sub Divisional Civil Hospital for treatment. Two others, Gautam Doley and Babu Saikia, were arrested at the scene.
Police recovered a 9mm pistol and four live rounds from Basumatary. Gautam Doley, known for rhino poaching, and his accomplices have multiple FIRs against them for crimes including car theft and armed extortion. They were also involved in the shooting of a local teacher, Uday Changmai. Legal proceedings are underway for the arrested individuals.
