Police Raid Foils Child Marriage: Groom, Kazi, and Parents Arrested

In a successful operation, Golokganj police thwarted a child marriage at a wedding venue in Boro Charaikhola village on Tuesday night. Acting on a tip-off, the police, led by Officer-in-Charge Devjit Kalita, arrested six individuals, including the 33-year-old groom Ainul Haque, who was already married with two children, and the Kazi, Sahabuddin Mir, set to officiate the illegal union. The minor bride was rescued and placed in a shelter home named Sakhi in Gauripur, where she will receive counseling and legal support. It was revealed that Haque’s wife had allegedly eloped, potentially motivating his involvement in the child marriage. The police filed cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, urging the public to report such cases to help combat this social issue.
