Pre-Poll Violence Erupts in Assam’s Sonitpur and Nagaon

Pre-election tensions escalated in Assam with violent clashes reported from Sonitpur and Nagaon districts during intensified campaigning.

In Sonitpur’s Naduar constituency, BJP worker Prince Saikia and others were injured during clashes at Tupia following earlier tensions between BJP and Congress workers. The situation worsened when former MLA Praneswar Basumatary was reportedly obstructed during campaigning, leading to further violence and damage to vehicles.

In a separate incident in Nagaon’s Barhampur constituency, BJP workers allegedly vandalised an Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) election office at Barchungjar and assaulted party workers, triggering retaliation and clashes.

Several people were injured in both incidents, with police later intervening to restore order.
