Primary Teachers Protest Salary Payment Changes, Threaten Indefinite Stir

Guwahati: The Assam State Primary Teachers’ Association (ASPTA) held a one-hour sit-in across the state on Friday, opposing the proposed change in salary processing for teachers appointed through the Special Recruitment Drive (SRD).

The association has demanded clarification from the government and warned of an indefinite sit-in from August 12 if the proposed salary arrangement is not withdrawn.

ASPTA alleged that SRD teachers, who joined the Directorate of Elementary Education after leaving SSA posts, had been receiving salaries through the State Treasury. It questioned a recent order directing their salaries to be processed through the SNA-SPARSH system, calling the move contrary to established policy.

The association has also sought clarity on the status of the teachers’ appointments and the earlier government orders creating 35,133 state education posts.
