Protest Against Illegal Sand Mining at Assam-Meghalaya Border

Organizations from Assam and Meghalaya, led by the Mothers’ Union, held a meeting and protest on Saturday against illegal sand mining along the Assam-Meghalaya border. The mining has harmed local livelihoods and the environment.

Speakers, including leaders from the Garo Students’ Union and All Bodo Students’ Union, criticized government inaction and the role of the forest department in allowing the illegal trade. Protesters vowed to continue their fight and demand an end to the mining, threatening further action if necessary.
