Supreme Court Orders Immediate Inspection of Assam’s Matia Transit Camp

The Supreme Court has directed the Assam government to inspect the Matia Transit Camp in Dhubri, which houses over 200 illegal infiltrators. Justices Abhay Oka and A.G. Masih expressed concern over the camp’s poor conditions and instructed the government to submit a report on improvements by December 9.

A report from the State Level Services Authority (SLSA) highlighted issues like inadequate healthcare for women detainees and lack of educational resources. The court’s order follows previous criticism of detention facilities in Goalpara, which also faced issues of poor hygiene and food quality.
