Protest in Nazira Demands Local Jobs and Protection of ONGC Assam Asset

The Sivasagar District Joint Struggle Forum of mass organisations staged a sit-in protest outside the ONGC Assam Asset headquarters in Nazira on Wednesday, demanding employment opportunities for local youth, protection of the Assam Asset from privatisation and financial assistance for flood-affected people.

Protesters alleged that declining production and reduced permanent employment reflected inadequate modernisation and changes in ONGC’s policies. They opposed the proposed outsourcing of rigs and expressed concern over the possible privatisation of profitable oilfields, including Geleki. The forum also demanded financial support for flood victims and reconstruction of damaged roads.
