Protests Erupt Over Proposed Kulsi River Hydroelectric Dam

The Assam government plans to build a 55 MW hydroelectric dam at the Kulsi river’s source in Ukiam, Meghalaya, sparking protests from local communities and environmentalists. The Kulsi, vital for biodiversity and home to the endangered South Asian river dolphin, is also ecologically linked to Chandubi Lake. Protesters warn the project may harm the river’s natural flow, heritage, and ecology.
