Rail Passengers’ Body Seeks Separate Northeast Railway Zone

The Assam Rail Passengers’ Association urged the Centre to create a dedicated railway zone for the eight northeastern States by splitting the Northeast Frontier Railway. It proposed merging NFR’s West Bengal and Bihar divisions with other zones, and restructuring remaining divisions, including a new one at Badarpur. The body also pushed for early approval of pending rail projects, restoration of suspended trains, new premium and intercity services, a third rail line in key sections, better station facilities, suburban EMU/MEMU services, and reinstating senior citizen and media fare concessions.
