Rajya Sabha Passes President’s Rule Resolution for Manipur

Rajya Sabha approved the statutory resolution on President’s Rule in Manipur early Friday, a day after Lok Sabha passed it. Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated it wasn’t due to law and order failure but followed CM Biren Singh’s resignation. Opposition leaders criticized the late-night discussion and demanded a white paper. Shah cited past ethnic clashes and ongoing talks between communities. President’s Rule was imposed on February 13 after nearly two years of violence. The Manipur Assembly remains in suspended animation.
