Raniganj Shooting Suspect Injured in Police Encounter, Investigation Ongoing

Police shot Nur Kalam, the main suspect in the November 26 Raniganj Market shooting, during an encounter in Dhubri’s Paikanadara Part-II village. Kalam, attempting to flee, sustained a leg injury and was apprehended. He is accused of attacking an SBI CSP, leaving three injured, including CSP owner Obaidur Rahman.

Authorities have arrested two accomplices and recovered the crime’s getaway motorcycle. Investigations continue into weapon procurement and other suspects. The incident highlights growing concerns over Assam’s frequent police encounters, with the Supreme Court calling for detailed accountability.
