Ranoj Pegu Rejects Claims of Massive Drop in Assam School Enrolment

Guwahati: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has dismissed Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi’s claims of a massive decline in government school enrolment, calling them misleading.
Pegu said the fall in student numbers is mainly due to the removal of “ghost students” from the UDISE database and a declining birth rate. He added that Assam’s overall enrolment decline of 4.1% is in line with the national trend, while enrolment in secondary schools has slightly increased, reflecting growing confidence in government schools.
