Rising Mental Health Concerns Among Youth: Expert Warns on Early Treatment

Dr. Suresh Chakravarty, Head of Psychiatry at Gauhati Medical College, highlighted growing mental health issues among youth, especially students aged 18–25. He cited cut-throat competition, parental expectations, substance abuse, nuclear family setups, and exposure to violence as key causes. Dr. Chakravarty stressed that mental health is a brain disease like any other and requires early treatment. He urged awareness, early detection, and immediate medical help to prevent long-term complications and suicides.
