Rudrasagar Gas Leak: ONGC Moves to Plan C as Initial Efforts Fail

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that ONGC’s Plans A and B to stop the Rudrasagar gas leak failed. Plan C—permanent well capping with a heavy plate—will now begin, aided by a US expert. The leak poses a serious risk due to its proximity to a river. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said safety measures are in place, air quality is safe, and a “junk shot” and kill fluid operation is underway. Compensation will follow a joint damage assessment.
