Saraighat Express Gets Experimental Halt at Goalpara Station

In a major boost to rail connectivity in western Assam, the Saraighat Express has begun its first-ever experimental stoppage at Goalpara town railway station from February 6. The move reduces the distance between Goalpara and Howrah by nearly 12 percent and improves passenger convenience.
The halt was introduced following long-standing public demand led by the Goalpara District Rail Passenger Association, which highlighted the station’s importance for passengers from Goalpara and neighbouring regions. Social workers and civil society groups also played a key role in pushing the demand.
To mark the historic first stop, locals organised a welcome ceremony at the station. Residents have welcomed the decision and hope the stoppage will be made permanent along with improvements in station infrastructure.
