Sarma Blames 1971 Political Decisions for Assam’s High Commodity Prices

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma blamed Assam’s high essential commodity prices on missed strategic gains post-1971 war, notably around the Chicken’s Neck area. Speaking at the Northeast Investment Summit, he called the oversight a “historic political blunder.” Sarma also criticized Bangladesh’s “habitual threats” over the Siliguri Corridor, highlighting its own fragile corridors. He urged NITI Aayog for policy relief and slammed the 1971 Indira Gandhi government for lost strategic opportunities.
