Security Concerns Rise Over Vulnerable Chicken Neck Corridor

The vulnerability of India’s Chicken Neck Corridor, connecting the Northeast to the rest of the country, has escalated due to the volatile situation in Bangladesh.

Retired Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita highlighted concerns over increased Chinese and Pakistani ISI influence in the region. He warned of potential disruptions caused by disgruntled elements rather than direct attacks from China or Bangladesh.

With rising Chinese activity in Nepal and northern Bangladesh and the proximity of Bangladesh’s Rongpur airbase, the corridor remains at risk. Kalita emphasized strengthening security measures and intelligence to ensure the region’s stability.
