Seven Arrested Over Violent Protest Against Waqf Amendment Act in Silchar

Cachar Police arrested seven people linked to Sunday’s violent protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, near Silchar. Around 300 protestors marched without permission, leading to a police intervention and mild lathi-charge. Cases were filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma warned against street protests, urging grievances to be addressed through the courts.
