Six Apprehended as Assam Rifles Intercepts ₹27.28 Crore Narcotics Consignment in Manipur

Jiribam, Manipur: A joint operation by Assam Rifles and Borobekra Police in Manipur’s Jiribam district has resulted in the apprehension of six individuals and the seizure of narcotics estimated to be worth more than ₹27 crore.

According to Assam Rifles, the operation was carried out in the Tupidhar area on August 20 after security personnel detected a group of suspected smugglers travelling through the Barak River in a boat.

Assam Rifles troops intercepted the vessel, but the suspects allegedly attempted to escape, leading to a pursuit. The joint operation ultimately resulted in the apprehension of six persons, the force said.

During the operation, security personnel recovered 90,000 Yaba tablets weighing 9.414 kg, with Assam Rifles estimating their value at approximately ₹27 crore. The team also seized 48 grams of heroin, valued by the force at around ₹28.80 lakh.

The total estimated value of the narcotics seized in the operation was placed at ₹27.288 crore by Assam Rifles.

In addition to the suspected narcotics, the joint team recovered six mobile phones and seized the boat allegedly used to transport the contraband.

Assam Rifles said the apprehended individuals and the seized items were subsequently handed over to Borobekra Police for further investigation and legal proceedings under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The operation marks another significant narcotics seizure in the Jiribam region, which lies along Manipur’s western side and is connected by the Barak River and other important transport routes. The specific seizure details and valuation are based on the official statement issued by Assam Rifles, while subsequent investigation and legal proceedings will be handled by the police authorities.
