Social Worker Alhaj Ibrahim Ali Passes Away in Guwahati

Guwahati, Sept 26: Veteran social worker and community figure Alhaj Ibrahim Ali, a resident of Hill View in South Sarania, Guwahati, passed away at his residence at around 2 am on September 25. He was 76.

Ali’s death has left members of several social, cultural and community organisations in Guwahati mourning. His contribution to various community initiatives and organisations was widely remembered by friends, associates and well-wishers.

Born and brought up partly in Athgaon, Ali completed his matriculation from Cotton Collegiate Higher Secondary School and later graduated from Cotton College. He subsequently began his professional career in business and became involved in contracts related to Public Works Department projects, particularly during the period when Assam’s capital was shifted from Shillong to Guwahati.

Over the years, Ali remained actively associated with a number of social and cultural organisations. He served as an adviser to the Ulubari Rongali Bihu Sanmilan and was associated with the Sarani Cemetery Committee and Assam Haj Committee. He also held positions in the Greater Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani Coordination Committee, Guwahati Fataeha-e-Dwazdaham Committee, Ulubari Senior Citizens’ Association and the social organisation Daanang.

Following news of his demise, members of several organisations visited his residence to offer their last respects and convey condolences to his family.

The Ulubari Rongali Bihu Sanmilan president Quen Oja and general secretary Arup Jyoti Choudhury expressed grief over his death. Members of the Manchajyoti Club and Ulubari Barowari Durgotsav Committee also visited the bereaved family.

Greater Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani Coordination Committee president Ranjan Bora and general secretary Ajay Talukdar also expressed their condolences.

Ali’s janaza was held at the Sarania Cemetery in the presence of family members, friends and well-wishers.

He is survived by his wife Hamida Begum, daughter Wahida Begum Haque, son-in-law Nirmal Baishya, daughter-in-law Jitumoni Begum, and three grandchildren
