Sonowal Highlights Sports as Economic Driver at Sansad Khel Mahotsav

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday said developing sports as an industry can create jobs and boost income, helping India compete globally. He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the Sansad Khel Mahotsav at Chowkidingee playground in Dibrugarh.

Sonowal said initiatives launched after 2014, including Khelo India and Fit India, have strengthened sports culture and talent identification. He praised Assam’s Khel Maharan for nurturing grassroots talent, announced one-year scholarships for promising athletes, and released a souvenir.

The event concluded with a virtual address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who congratulated participants and urged them to strive for excellence.
