Soumyajit Majumdar to Direct Musical Biopic ‘Joyguru’ on Parvathy Baul

Filmmaker Soumyajit Majumdar is set to direct ‘Joyguru’, a Hindi musical biopic on the life of Parvathy Baul, a renowned Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee and performer. The film will explore Parvathy Baul’s journey in the Baul tradition, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Inspired by Parvathy’s childhood in Assam, parts of the film will be shot in the state, as well as in Shantiniketan, Bolpur, Kerala, Vrindavan, the UK, USA, and France. Cinematographer Ravi Varman will film the Assam scenes.

‘Joyguru’ is a collaborative production involving talents from India, the USA, the UK, and France, with filming set to begin in 2025. The project was also featured at the Cannes Film Market 2024.
