Sudden Heavy Rainfall and Storms Cause Widespread Damage in Assam

Parts of Assam experienced sudden heavy rainfall accompanied by strong gusts of wind and thundering on Friday evening, leading to significant damage. Guwahati, Sonapur, and Tihu were particularly affected.

In Kur Kuria, a large tree was uprooted along the Digaru-Kur Kuria Road, halting vehicle movement until Sonapur forest officials cleared the debris. Tihu town in Nalbari saw a tree fall near Ulubari petrol pump, blocking the Nalbari-Sarthebari route and damaging a nearby pan shop. Another incident in Geetanagar involved a fallen tree damaging a parked vehicle and causing traffic delays.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati has issued warnings for thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds of 30-40 km/h over Assam and Meghalaya. Similar weather is expected in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh, with heavy rain likely in isolated areas.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours includes partly cloudy skies with rain or thunderstorms, and temperatures ranging from a maximum of 35°C to a minimum of 24°C.
