Supreme Court Refuses Bail to Assam Professor Over Obscene, Anti-India Posts

The Supreme Court sharply criticised and denied interim bail to Md Joynal Abedin, a former professor at Gossaigaon College, arrested for anti-India and obscene social media posts. The bench called him a “pervert” and a “threat to young girls,” citing his history of harassing women online.
The court reviewed his posts and said the content showed a “dirty mind.” Though his lawyer argued he apologised, deleted the post, and lost his job, the court refused relief.
The bench also asked the Gauhati High Court Chief Justice to verify why Gossaigaon court has had no judicial officer for six months and to ensure the case proceeds either by posting an officer or transferring it to Kokrajhar Sessions Court.
