Suspension Orders Withdrawn for Policemen in North Lakhimpur Custodial Death Case

Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh directed the North Lakhimpur Superintendent of Police (SP) to withdraw the suspension orders of the policemen, including the In Charge of Khelmati Police Station, in connection with the custodial death of a detainee. Preliminary post-mortem reports indicated that the detainee died due to pre-existing coronary disease.

DGP Singh stated that while the suspensions are lifted, a detailed enquiry and mandatory follow-up will continue. This decision follows tensions and outrage in Lakhimpur after the detainee, Arsabh Ali (42), detained for a mobile theft, fell ill and died inside the Khelmati Police Station on Wednesday night. Initially, IC Dipankar Changmai and an on-duty sentry were suspended following the incident.
