Tai Ahom Youth Council Stages Protest in Moran Demanding ST Status

The Tai Ahom Youth Council (TAYC) staged a massive rally in Moran demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for six indigenous communities. Protesters lit up NH-37 with flashlights after police tried to block them. TAYC president Bijoy Rajkhowa accused the BJP of betraying promises made since 2014 and warned of electoral backlash in 2026 if demands remain unmet. He condemned the government’s suppression of protests, calling CM Sarma’s stance “laughable.” Similar demonstrations have recently taken place across Assam.
