Tea Garden Groups Slam Assam Govt’s Rs 30 Wage Hike as Inadequate

Tea garden-based organisations, including AASAA and AYSAA, have criticised the Assam government’s decision to raise daily wages of tea workers by Rs 30. The revised wages stand at Rs 280 in the Brahmaputra valley and Rs 258 in the Barak valley, announced as an interim measure. The groups said the hike falls far short of ensuring a fair minimum wage and reminded the government of its earlier promise of Rs 351. AASAA demanded Rs 551 per day, while AYSAA sought at least Rs 500, warning of intensified agitation if the wage structure is not revised.
