Tea Garden Workers Protest Over Job Cuts in Assam

Hundreds of Assam Tea Corporation workers protested in Jorhat against the state’s alleged plan to cut permanent jobs in government-run tea estates. Led by ACMS and ATTSA, they marched 7 km demanding withdrawal of the move and reinstatement of dependent jobs for families of retired or deceased workers. Protesters also raised issues of wage hikes, land pattas, and ST status. They submitted a memorandum seeking immediate action and warned of statewide protests if demands aren’t met within 15 days.
