Tea Planters Move Gauhati High Court Against Labour Line Land Allotment

Tea planters’ associations have approached the Gauhati High Court challenging the Assam government’s decision to allot labour line land to workers, arguing that tea estates function as an integrated unit and cannot be fragmented. The court has listed the matter for March 26 and said any action under the law will be subject to its final verdict.

The associations have termed the Assam Fixation of Ceiling on Land Holdings (Amendment) Act, 2025 as illegal and unconstitutional, while the state defended it as a welfare-oriented policy aimed at social justice.
