Tension Flares at Merapani Seed Farm, Farmers File Complaint

Local farmers under the Merapani Seed Farm Bhumi Adhikar Dabi Samiti have filed a complaint at Merapani Police Station against the Nagaland Agriculture Department following fresh tension along the Assam–Nagaland border in Golaghat.

The unrest broke out on Monday after Nagaland Police, administrative officials, and Merapani Village Council representatives allegedly attempted to resume construction of permanent RCC structures on disputed land at the Seed Farm in Bheleuguri. Villagers gathered at the site and opposed the move, forcing the team to retreat, locals claimed.

The Samiti alleged the structure could later be converted into a Nagaland Police camp and maintained that the nearly 1,200-acre land falls within Assam’s boundary. The incident follows earlier disputes over oil palm plantation attempts on the same land, underscoring continued volatility in the border area.
