Tension in Biswanath as Eviction Drive Demolishes Mosque

The second day of Assam’s eviction drive in Biswanath’s Japoriguri turned tense after a mosque and several homes on grazing land were demolished, despite pleas from locals to spare the religious site. Evictees clashed briefly with reporters, prompting police intervention. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reaffirmed that eviction against illegal settlers will continue, with 55 acres cleared so far. Around 307 families have been affected since the drive began on August 17.
