Tensions Rise in Manipur Over Meitei Pilgrimage to Thangjing Hill

Fresh tensions erupted in Manipur as Kuki-Zo groups protested the Meitei community’s annual pilgrimage to Thangjing Hill, a sacred site in Churachandpur. Six Kuki-Zo bodies opposed the entry, citing unresolved political issues. Former CM Okram Ibobi Singh and AMUCO urged peace, calling for government protection of pilgrims. The site is officially recognized as a protected historical monument by the Manipur government.
