Thermal Power Project Shifted from Kokrajhar to Dhubri and Goalpara

Assam’s proposed 3,000-MW thermal power project, initially planned for Kokrajhar, will now be set up in Dhubri and Goalpara. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma cited concerns over tribal land rights as the reason for relocation. The Rs 40,000-crore project is expected to generate one lakh jobs, with the foundation stone likely to be laid by November. The Kokrajhar site, spanning 4,000 bighas, may now be used for a hospital or college.
