Thousands of Contractual Teachers Made Permanent in Assam
Thousands of contractual teachers gathered at the Veterinary Field in Khanapara on Monday, celebrating the long-awaited regularization of their jobs. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed 23,956 permanent appointment letters to teachers under Samagra Shiksha, Assam. One teacher expressed relief, noting that despite a slight pay cut, job security and a pension make the wait worthwhile. The Chief Minister highlighted that over 1.24 lakh government jobs have been provided in the last four years, with plans to create 50,000 more by May 2025. Additionally, teachers will have the option to switch to the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) starting April 1.
