Tinsukia District Successfully Clears 1.53 Lakh Metric Tons of Legacy Waste
The Tinsukia district administration, in collaboration with five municipal boards, launched an ambitious initiative in March 2023 to rid the district of legacy waste. Utilizing Oil India Limited’s CSR fund, biomining projects were initiated under various municipal boards. A total of 75,000 metric tons of waste was treated in Tingrai dumpsite in Tinsukia, along with significant amounts in other areas. This effort cleared 1.53 lakh metric tons of legacy waste within a year, addressing a longstanding concern for the region’s residents. District Commissioner Swapneel Paul highlighted the reclamation of over 80 bighas of land near urban centers and the utilization of refuse-derived fuel in cement factories, marking Tinsukia as a model district in waste management and land reclamation.
