Tinsukia Firecracker Sellers Flout Rules Ahead of Diwali

Firecracker vendors in Tinsukia are violating safety regulations by selling firecrackers illegally in busy market areas, including AT Road and GNB Road. Despite rules requiring storage in distant godowns at night, many sellers keep large stocks in unsafe locations, risking public safety.

Authorities, including the fire brigade and SDRF, raised concerns during a joint awareness program. Only six licensed wholesalers exist, but many unlicensed traders are selling firecrackers, even in shops like cloth and footwear stores. Environmental groups urged the administration to take strict action, highlighting violations of the Supreme Court’s ban on high-decibel firecrackers.

The Supreme Court’s ruling permits limited use of firecrackers and restricts online sales, but enforcement remains weak.
