Traders Protest NF Railway’s Auction Plans for Pandu Railway Market

Traders at Guwahati’s historic Pandu Railway Market are protesting against NF Railway’s plan to auction market plots for five years. The market management committee claims this move will displace over 500 traders who have operated on yearly leases since 1948.

Citing post-lockdown financial struggles, traders argue they cannot afford lump-sum auction payments and have sought time to clear dues. The committee has appealed to the NF Railway General Manager and Assam’s Chief Minister for intervention, but no response has been received.

NF Railway officials stated that no final decision has been made, and some traders have cleared arrears after the auction notice.
