Tragic Elephant Encounter Claims Lives of Couple in Assam’s Goalpara District

In a tragic incident on Friday night, a man and a woman, believed to be a couple, were trampled to death by a wild elephant in Lakhipur, Assam’s Goalpara district. The unfortunate encounter occurred as the pair was traveling on a motorcycle from Lakhipur to Hati Gaon village and came across a herd of elephants. The irate tusker attacked and fatally trampled both victims. The identities of the deceased are yet to be established. Local police and forest officials reached the scene, recovering the bodies for post-mortem. This incident follows a recent rampage by a wild elephant herd in Kaliabor, where at least two people lost their lives.
