Tragic Railway Incidents Highlight Safety Concerns in Assam

In Chandrapur, on the outskirts of Guwahati, a woman in her 60s lost her life after being struck by a speeding train near Thakurkuchi railway station. Identified as Arunabala Kalita from Tatimara village, the incident occurred as she returned home from grazing livestock. Authorities have launched an investigation, reigniting concerns over railway track safety. Similarly, in Lakhimpur, an adult wild elephant was fatally hit by a passenger train near Gogamukh, prompting calls for enhanced safety measures. Despite efforts by forest officials, the elephant succumbed to its injuries, underscoring the need for greater vigilance along railway tracks to prevent such tragedies.
