Transport Commissioner Launches Stringent Drive in Dhubri to Combat Tax Evasion and Overspeeding
The newly appointed Commissioner of Transport, Ankur Jain, initiated an intensive enforcement drive across Dhubri district on February 21, 2024, aimed at tackling tax evasion and overspeeding on roadways. In just two days, the District Transport Officer (DTO) of Dhubri collected Rs 2.70 lakhs in fines. The Transport Department revealed that many vehicle owners neglected to pay commercial vehicle taxes, posing a threat to government revenue crucial for road infrastructure and public safety. Additionally, numerous public transport vehicles were found lacking essential documents, such as fitness certificates and insurance papers, raising concerns about roadworthiness and liability. The department, alarmed by the prevalent overspeeding contributing to road accidents, has deployed inspection teams to conduct thorough checks and impose fines on violators.
