Travellers Between Guwahati and Silchar May Soon Get Early Morning and Night Flights

The government is considering introducing early morning and night flights between Guwahati and Silchar to improve connectivity. Minister of Barak Valley Development, Kaushik Rai, highlighted the need for better air links due to frequent road disruptions, especially during monsoons.

Currently, only one afternoon flight operates between the cities. Though night landing facilities were introduced in 2009 and watch hours extended to 8 pm in 2017, logistical challenges have delayed further expansion. The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved additional CISF deployment at Silchar airport to facilitate night operations.

Meanwhile, the Silchar-Saurashtra East-West Corridor is progressing and is expected to be completed by January 2026.
