Two Arrested for Illegal Tree Cutting in Assam’s Bajali District

Following complaints from nature lovers and environmentalists, the forest department has arrested two individuals for illegally cutting trees on government land in the Bichan Kuchi area near the Kaldiya River in Assam’s Bajali district. The accused, identified as Achyut Roy and Hiranya Roy from Bichan Kuchi village, were reportedly involved in the illegal activity.

The incident came to light when Sankar Nath, a field officer of disaster management, witnessed the miscreants cutting down several trees and informed the forest officials. Despite the quick response, the culprits managed to flee the scene, masked and equipped with tractors and cutter machines.

The arrests were made following a strong outcry from nature lovers demanding action against the illegal deforestation.
