UPPL MP Demands Passage of 125th Constitutional Amendment to Empower Tribal Councils

UPPL MP Rwngwra Narzary has urged the Centre to immediately pass the Constitution (125th Amendment) Bill, 2019, pending in the Rajya Sabha for over five years, to strengthen Sixth Schedule autonomous councils.

Raising the issue in the Rajya Sabha, Narzary said the councils have remained stagnant for decades, denying tribals their due development. He noted that the bill seeks to enhance the administrative and financial powers of the councils and is linked to commitments made under the 2020 Bodo Accord.

He called for urgent reforms to fully implement the accord and enable autonomous councils to function effectively in line with the vision of a developed India.
