UPPL’s First Candidate List for BTC Polls Triggers Mixed Reactions

The UPPL released its first list of 18 candidates for the BTC elections, sparking both celebrations and protests. In Banargaon, workers opposed Rabiram Brahma’s candidature, burning flags in protest. In contrast, Salakati supporters welcomed MLA Lawrence Islary with a rally. UPPL chief Pramod Boro downplayed dissent, calling it “natural in politics,” and hinted at more women candidates in future lists. The party’s move to field Ranjit Basumatary in Baokhungri instead of Chirang Duars has fuelled speculation over its poll strategy.
