Violence Erupts During Dhubri Eviction Drive for Adani Power Project

An eviction drive in Assam’s Dhubri district turned violent as locals clashed with police during land clearing for an Adani Group thermal power project. The drive targeted 3,000 bighas across three villages. Protesters damaged machinery and objected to the demolition of a mosque. Police used lathi charge to control the unrest. MLA Akhil Gogoi was detained after calling the eviction illegal, citing ongoing court cases. The administration promised Rs 50,000 aid and land for rehabilitation, with compensation for patta holders.
